About this category
Asian cooking covers a huge range, and this category brings together Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai-inspired dishes. Many of them are naturally light on carbs as long as you leave out the rice and noodles, since stir-fried meat, vegetables, ginger, garlic and chili form the core. A beef and broccoli wok or Thai basil beef cooks in minutes and goes well with cauliflower rice.
Noodles are replaced with konjac or vegetables. Dan dan noodles with konjac keep the spicy sesame flavor, and a zucchini pad Thai with peanut lime sauce swaps the rice noodles for spiralized zucchini. A Sichuan classic like mapo tofu also works on keto, as long as the sauce is thickened without cornstarch, for instance with a little xanthan gum.
The main pitfall is sugar in sauces. Teriyaki, hoisin, sweet chili and oyster sauce usually contain a lot of it, so keto versions like chicken teriyaki with broccoli rely on homemade sauces. Tamari stands in for regular soy sauce if you avoid wheat. Miso, kimchi and sesame oil add depth with few carbs, and a miso wakame soup with tofu makes a warming starter.
